I've been focused on recording instrumental music for some time, but a number of folks have asked me to make a cd of songs, so this is it! Like the first two albums, there is a variety of styles and moods represented, and this is the first cd where I've invited other musicians to join me. It contains seven original vocal tunes, two fingerstyle pieces, a couple of flatpicked instrumentals and a version of the traditional song "Shady Grove" that, well...it's a little different, is all I can say, while maintaining what I feel is the true nature of the song. This album is the product of many years of writing and singing songs, as well as several years of recording. I've finally become satisfied that I have something to offer in a broader range of music. I hope you agree, and I truly hope you enjoy it!

Lyrics

Just a Little Crazy For You
You know you've got the most beautiful eyes
I think I've ever seen
Your nose, your lips, your hair
I guess you know what I mean
I want to tell you how sweet you look
But something makes me hesitate
I never dreamed love could be like this
I guess it must be fate
You know if you told me to leave I would
But that's something I hope you won't do
You don't have to worry, I'm not big and furry
I'm just a little crazy for you
Crazy, it's crazy what love'll do to you
Crazy, I'm just a little crazy for you
I caught a glimpse of you on the street
Lord, you looked so fine
And when I sniffed at the evening breeze
I nearly lost my mind
I haunted every wall in town
Until I found your name
And now I'm just like a great big old moth
Drawn into your flame
I want you so badly I can't even talk
I umm, uh, aw shoot
Well my message may be garbled
But I've still got all my marbles
I'm just a little crazy for you
Crazy, it's crazy what love'll do to you
Crazy, I'm just a little crazy for you, oh yeah
I'm just a little crazy for you, you, just you

Shady Grove
Shady Grove my true love
Shady Grove my darling
Shady Grove my true love
I'm going back to Harlan
Cheeks as red as a blooming rose
And eyes are the prettiest brown
She's the darling of my heart
Sweetest girl in town
I wish I had a big fine horse
And corn to feed him on
And Shady Grove to stay at home
And feed him while I'm gone
Chorus
Went to see my Shady Grove
She was standing in the door
Her shoes and stockin's in her hand
And her little bare feet on the floor
When I was a little boy
I wanted a Barlow knife
And now I want little Shady Grove
To say she'll be my wife
Chorus
A kiss from pretty little Shady Grove
Is sweet as brandy wine
And there ain't no girl in this old world
That's prettier than mine
When I was in shady grove
Heard them pretty birds sing
The next time I go to shady grove
Take along a diamond ring

For You
The morning weaves a velvet halo
All around your head
You're telling me that it's time to go
But I'd rather stay with you instead
I'd rather stay here with you today
I'd rather stay if that's ok with you
I love you
Oh my lady can you tell me
Why do I keep coming back to you
When every time I try to tell you how I feel
I can't get through to you
Can you give me a reason why
Can you give me an alibi
Can you tell me why I play the fool for you
Why do I love you
I know I'm not the only one who loves you
I'm not the only one at your door
I know I'm not the only one who's left
His heart lying there on your floor
I try to tell myself it's alright
We've all been there before
But you know sometimes I think I just
I can't take anymore
But I love you God knows I do

Wishes
If an elephant could fly she'd probably own the sky
Who would want to argue with a 10 ton dragonfly
And a bear could have a lot of fun
If he could dance and sing
If he could be a hairy Fred Astaire
He wouldn't need a thing
But wishes just ain't horses and beggars they don't ride
And no one rescues you from your own foolishness and pride
And fairy tales that don't come true
Leave holes that you can't hide
But you gotta try, my my
Jesus don't like sinnin', they tell you in bible school
But Jusus always liked us sinners
Better than pious fools
Now we'd all like him to come on back
And set this world a'right
It'd be so nice if he'd open his eyes
And shine that guiding light
chorus
There never was another love like the love I had for you
I knew you'd never cheat on me, 'cause you swore you'd be true
I wish you hadn't lied to me
I wish you'd stayed at home
And when I found you in that room
Lord, I wish you'd been alone
chorus

Some Days Are Like That
Well I double-parked my car just the other day
I was gone about a minute-and-a-half I'd say,
But when I got back there was a lady-cop there
She was writing me a ticket, it just didn't seem fair
I figured my best bet was to be disarming
Suave and debonair and totally charming
I said, "Hey good-lookin' what's goin' on"
She said "When I turn around you'd better be gone
Cause I know what you want, you're all the same
But you're paying the fine and that's the end of the game"
Well the situation went downhill from there
She'd made up her mind and she just didn't care
She threatened to write me another ticket
And I threatened to tell her where she could stick it
And I pointed my finger at her to make my case
Just as she stepped forward to get in my face
And my finger went someplace it shouldn't have been
And I just couldn't help it, I gave her a grin
The next thing I knew I was down on the ground
Handcuffed, busted and taken downtown
Some days are like that, yes they are
You get your hand stuck deep in the cookie jar
You go for the gold and come up with brass
You try to fly and you fall on your ass
Some days you eat that bowl of cherries, some days it eats you
Some days are like that, we've all had a few
Just last week a friend of mine
Got a brand new job, he was doin fine
He was drivin' nails but he did something dumb
He got distracted and he whacked his thumb
He was cussin and fussin and givin it what for
And he stepped on a nail in a two-by-four
He jumped back quick to get off that board
And forgot he was on a scaffold on the second floor
He fell into a great big tub of cement
That thing was on wheels and away it went
So he's covered with cement and he's yellin' and screamin'
And rolling downhill like a concrete demon
Well that tub hit a block and my friend went flyin
And he spattered his boss as he flew by and
He figured he was fired as he fell in a pile
But his boss shook his head and said with a smile,
Chorus
My friend Sally had a red hot date
With a real nice guy, she just couldn't wait
But that afternoon she got a bad case of gas
It'd make your eyes water when she let one pass
Well her date arrived and walked her to the car
And she felt one coming, the worst by far
He opened the door and she got in
Then he closed it and went around to his side again
Well she let 'er rip and she rolled the window down
And she waved her arms and blew it all out
Well he opened his door and he got in
She was feelin' much better and she gave him a grin
She said, "I think we're gonna have a good time tonight
He smiled and said, "You know, I think you're right"
But before we do we gotta make one stop
Just down the street, at the beauty shop
We have to drop someone off, so I'd like you to meet
My mom, that's her, in the back seat
Chorus

Just One Dream
Feelin down, feelin so low
Got some feelings you'll never know
Nothing to hold, nothing to show
Got no money, I got no car
Had to pawn my best guitar
I'm a long way down with a long way to go
There's just one thing I can be sure of
There's just one dream that never ends
The only thing I ever had was your love
I wish that I could see you again
Sometimes I think I'm livin' a lie
Feeding my soul on alibis
Tellin' myself that I don't care
Sometimes I'll turn and say
Hey, guess what I did today
But you know there's no one there
(chorus)
Rain water runs into streams
All my thoughts run into dreams
Rivers of wisdom, passing me by
Like the water returns to the sea
Maybe she'll come back to me
It's only water when I cry
(chorus)

One Night at the Ringside
I was sittin' in the Ringside Tavern
When a friend walked into me
He said,I beg your pardon but
You ought to come along with me
I've got sopors and booze and here's some news
Well, I need some company
I said say no more but as we headed for the door
He sang these words to me
Yeah we're gonna get high, high, high
On downers and alcohol
It's a two-way treat, it's so hard to beat
Makes you feel about ten feet tall
You look so cool 'cause you drool when you talk
And you make a lot of noise when you try to walk
If you wanna try an unnatural high
Take downers and alcohol
Friday night we had a party
With 714's and 'ludes
A bottle of Jack Black was makin the rounds
Man, we were rowdy dudes
Feeling like kings we began to sing
The only song we knew
Well the singin was poor but as I lay on the floor
I couldn't make the words out too
chorus
Me and the boys were downtown
Jukin' on a Saturday night
Tui's and juice had us feelin' loose
We were ready for a fight
But we picked on a couple of uptown dudes
With razors in their jeans
And after the fall in the hospital
These words came back to me
chorus

Let George Do It
Well I don't know but I been told
The people in Heaven are all rich and old
And the world down here is a' heatin up
But our hearts are turnin cold
All the news is bad, it's really sad
But what's it mean to me?
If I want to see reality, I'll watch it on ABC
It's a complicated world out there
And there's a lot to worry about
All this social insecurity is scary there's no doubt
And information overload can burn you out it's true
But if you don't think for yourself
Somebody else will do it for you
You can let George do it, let George do it
Well my job went east but you know at least
I can buy me a cheap TV
So let George do it, let George do it
All those CEO's got the world by the nose
And the rest of us, we got the lottery
There's a war goin on out there
That we didn't ask for and we don't need
There's better places for that money to go
We got a lot of hungry mouths to feed
And folks there are dyin' to ask us
Do we mean the things we say?
Are the rest of us gonna turn an ear
Or are we just gonna turn away?
And let George do it, let George do it
He seems to have a plan for the whole wide world
Should we just get out of the way?
And let George do it, let George do it
Or has he done too much, is it time for us
To send George on his way
Let George do it, let George do it
I'm tired of keepin quiet so people like George can have their say
So let's all do it, let's get down to it
Let's put the brakes on the people in charge
Their minds are small but their plans are large
There's been enough dyin, time to stop all the lyin
So George, c'mon George, let's do it today
