Dateline: Kent Ohio
Attention, live local music fans (those no longer living can ignore this): We’ve got a chance to strike a blow for live music this weekend! Kathy and I will be premiering live entertainment at Diggers Bar & Grill in Kent and I’d really like to reinforce the idea that replacing Karaoke with live music is a good move! (Details follow below)

CD news: I’ve been focused on things other than gigs lately, but it’s starting to come around. One area of interest recently is the upcoming re-release of my cd “This Song is for You”. When I put it out originally in 2010, I was getting ready to do a tour and couldn’t spend as much time finishing it as I wanted. I threw a few songs on there that were pretty dated, and not really well recorded, so I’ve been working on some new ones and they’re coming together nicely. When it comes out again, those of you who have a copy of the old version will be invited to trade in the old model for the new (or buy it cheap if you think the old one may become a collector’s item! ;-). Either way, look for that to come out in the next couple of months.

Ok, on to the live entertainment:

As mentioned, this Friday, April 19, Kathy Camille and I will be premiering live entertainment at Diggers Bar & Grill, at 802 N. Mantua St in Kent. I don’t get to play in Kent as often as I’d like, and Diggers is one of my favorite places here, so this will be a treat. Bert Bellinson is a great host and he serves up some of the best food (and best food deals) in town. We start at 8:00 and I’d love to see lots of my fellow Kentites there!

The bluegrass and traditional country music jam returns this Saturday, April 20, (and every third Saturday) from 4:00 to 5:30 at the Blue Rock Cafe in Hudson Ohio. This is an acoustic jam session, all non-electric instruments welcome as long as you can play country music on it (exception for electric bass)! Bring an instrument and play, or just listen and enjoy!

The Bee String Band will be at the Mohican Tavern in Loudonville next Friday, April 26, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. This is another great place, more friendly people and good food. The area where the band will play is fairly small, so if you’re coming to hear us it would behoove you to make a reservation, otherwise you’ll only hear but not see us (a bug or a feature? :-).

Kathy and I will be playing for a party at the VFW in Aurora on Saturday, April 27 from 8:00 to midnight, so if you’re a VFW member come on out!

One other note: I’m offering a different kind of music instruction these days at my home or yours. Rather than a weekly lesson, I’m teaching on a by appointment basis, with minimum one-hour lessons on an as-needed basis. The subject can be anything you want to work on, and I’m aiming at players who are self-motivated and don’t require the structure of weekly sessions to stay on track. I can help with blues, country, bluegrass and most roots styles (rock and roll, not so much anymore, although the basics of theory and improvisation can be applied to any style). If you’re having particular problems you’d like to work on, or maybe you’d like to improve finger-style or flat-picking technique, learn the language of a particular musical genre, learn to improvise, add to your understanding of music theory, or just figure out what’s holding you back from improving as a guitarist and musician, contact me for a session.

As usual, head to the website, www.kerrykean.com for more info. You can find my music for sale at the following discerning locations: Woodsy’s Music, Ohio Music and Black Squirrel Gift Shop in Kent; New River Gorge Visitor Center, Water Stone Outdoors in Fayetteville WV; cdbaby.com, amazon.com, iTunes and various other online cd and digital resellers; and, of course, from the website or directly from the artist himself (that’s me!)

Thanks to everyone who supports local, home-grown music. I hope to see you at one of the shows!

Rest assured I will not pass on anybody's info.
